October is known for a multitude of wonderful things — fall, changing leaves, crisp temperatures, football, and trick or treat; but it’s also known for something super important to everyone — it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a reminder to get a mammogram. We’ve all been touched by knowing someone who has, or has had, breast cancer, so we know that awareness is power. The Idea Specialists© at Collingwood Apartment Homes want to share just a few of the ways you can help locally support people affected by the disease and those searching for ways to cure it.
Grab your bestie and plan to attend J. McLaughlin’s Sip and Shop this Saturday, Oct. 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Alpharetta. Your purchases will result in a 15 percent donation to the Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta foundation.
Personally, we have our eye on this oh so comfortable Skyler Cashmere Wrap with its soft pink and touch of baby blue shade. You can also enjoy fabulous refreshments while you support this breast cancer awareness event, so make plans to attend.
Also this weekend on Saturday and Sunday Oct. 5-6, one of our favorite nearby outdoor destination locations Scottsdale Farms is hosting its Fourth Annual Think Pink Weekend to help raise awareness of breast cancer. The family-friendly event offer a wide variety of activities such as the Pumpkin Patch, Corn Maze, and our favorite, hayrides from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There’s also live music, face painting, and a Planting Seminar with Wayne Juers, “The Plant Doc” (is there anything he doesn’t know about plants? We don’t think so) among other scheduled events.
A portion of proceeds from the event including all tips, corn maze and hayride fees, and donations will be used to support TurningPoint Breast Cancer Rehabilitation, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that assist to provide unmet survivorship needs of women with breast cancer in Greater Atlanta. Better yet, all donations will be matched by the Gianturco Family Foundation.
Another event near and dear to our hearts is Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk that takes place Oct. 26 this year. The American Cancer Society-sponsored walk raises funds to support groundbreaking breast cancer research, life-saving education and critical patient services. It’s non-competitive, so start a team or cheer one on. We especially love that the event features a special area for survivors to hang out in. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.
And, if you are looking for a spacious, luxurious apartment home, stop by Collingwood Apartment Homes at 3400 Kimball Bridge Road in Alpharetta and take a tour. We look forward to seeing you.
