And, don’t forget that we are in the New Prospect Elementary School, Webb Bridge Middle School, and Alpharetta High School system area too!
But, with Fall finally in the air, the Idea Specialists© at Collingwood Apartment Homes want to recommend three awesome weekend getaways for you—Family, Adventure, and Romantic trips that we’re sure you’ll to want to try.
1. Family Fun in Chattanooga, Tennessee
The New York Times named Chattanooga one of the “Top 45 Places to Go” in the world and it’s easy to see why. Just over two hours from Alpharetta, Georgia this family -riendly city is chock full of great attractions, scenic views, history and family options for dining and lodging.
Plan your family trip to include the Tennessee Aquarium and Chattanooga Riverfront, Creative Discovery Museum, and Rock City Gardens. Your family can explore the Aquarium’s new “Island Life” exhibition, then enjoy time on the Riverwalk where you can bike, boat, walk or just play along the scenic Tennessee River with more than 13 miles of trails and parks to explore.
At the Creative Discovery Museum, you’ll find a wide variety of hands on learning exhibits your kid can participate in including River Play and Inventors’ Clubhouse. Just a few miles up Lookout Mountain, you’ll find Rock City, featuring massive ancient rock formations, gardens with over 400 native plant species, and breathtaking “See 7 States” panoramic views.
After a day of fun with the kids, check into Residence Inn by Marriott, centrally located within walking distance of most downtown attractions and featuring living spaces in each room along with an indoor pool.
Then head over to grab some kid-friendly grub at Café City Diner on Carter Street or our all-time favorite pizza place, Community Pie, with kids’ menus with just the right amount of food, a good variety of “outside the usual kid box” choices.
2. Looking for Adventure — Try hiking Blood Mountain
If you’re in the mood for an outdoor adventure, plan to hike Blood Mountain, under an hour from Collingwood nestled in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Fall is the busiest time of year—the leaves are in their penultimate color season and the mountain’s status as the highest peak on the Georgia segment of the Appalachian Trail ensures its popularity year-round. Stop by all things outdoor retailer REI in Mansell Crossing to stock up on hiking gear before you go.
If you want to make it an overnight moment, book one of the pet-friendly cabins at Blood Mountain Cabins and Country Store (you can stock up on food supplies and such there too), or The Smith House and The Dahlonega Square Hotel in Dahlonega, Georgia. And, these two also offer wine tours if you need a respite from all that hiking!
3. Romance is in the Air—at glorious Lake Rabun Hotel & Restaurant
Want to get away to relax, rejuvenate, and celebrate romance? Well this nature-inspired boutique hotel has you covered! Lightly resting among the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains, Lake Rabun Hotel & Restaurant offers romantic charm, and uniquely decorated rooms and cabins. We love the Appalachia Room with its rustic hewn boards and chinking, featuring a king-sized bed coupled with soft downy comforters and high thread count sheets. Mmmmm! Why leave the room, you ask?
Because this destination also features an award-winning farm to table restaurant with sustainably sourced menu items. Might we recommend their signature dish, the Pecan Encrusted Mountain Trout? It was named by Explore Georgia as one of the “Top 100 Meals Loved By Locals” and now we know why!
The hotel staff is happy to assist you in arranging custom mountain adventures, vineyard or distillery tours, golf, horseback riding, zip lining (if that spells romance for you, go for it) or boating on the lake, but we would be doing you a disservice if we didn’t mention their SPA—yes, SPA services.
The hotel’s Relax and Renew couple’s package includes a $70 restaurant allowance and 60 minute couples massage. (Check with the hotel on details.)
So, there you have it! Three totally wonderful experiences that you can enjoy on a fun Fall weekend all within less that a two-hour drive from Collingwood Apartment Homes. Give them a try and let us know how your own weekend getaway goes!
